Buy a luxury watch with crypto — Europe.
A practical, EU-focused walk-through of buying a Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet or Richard Mille with Bitcoin, USDT or SEPA — covering pricing in EUR / CHF / GBP, the margin-scheme VAT rules that apply to second-hand luxury pieces across the EU, insured door-to-door delivery, and the practical differences buyers face in Germany, Switzerland, the UK, France, Italy, Spain, the Benelux and Austria.
1. The European crypto-watch market in 2026
The two deepest European hubs for crypto-settled luxury watches are Switzerland (Zürich, Geneva) and Germany (Munich, Frankfurt), with London, Paris, Milan, Monaco, Amsterdam and Vienna as the primary demand cities. Roughly two-thirds of EU luxury-watch crypto volume settles in USDT or SEPA; on-chain BTC handles the six-figure Nautilus, Royal Oak Jumbo and Richard Mille end.
2. Currencies and pricing (EUR / CHF / GBP)
We quote in EUR by default for EU buyers, CHF for Swiss deliveries, and GBP for UK-domiciled clients. The crypto amount is fixed at the Kraken or Bitstamp spot mid-rate at invoice time, valid 15–30 minutes. SEPA payments settle same-day within the SEPA zone; Faster Payments (UK) settle in minutes.
3. VAT — the margin scheme (Differenzbesteuerung)
Almost every second-hand luxury watch traded in the EU is sold under the margin scheme (§25a UStG in Germany, art. 297 A CGI in France, art. 36 DPR 41/1995 in Italy). Practically this means: the buyer pays no additional VAT on top of the sale price, but cannot reclaim VAT either. New pieces from an authorized retail source include full VAT. Cross-border EU→EU deliveries between private buyers do not trigger import VAT.
4. Switzerland, UK and Norway (non-EU EEA)
Switzerland: 7.7% import VAT applies on the declared value; couriers (Malca-Amit, Ferrari) handle clearance. UK: 20% import VAT + 0% duty on watches; declared and paid by the recipient. Norway: 25% MVA on import. We can pre-calculate landed cost in CHF, GBP or NOK before you commit.
5. Insured shipping across the EU
Every deal ships fully insured up to declared value via Ferrari Group, Brinks or Malca-Amit. EU→EU: 24–48h with tracked, signed handover. Switzerland and the UK: 2–3 business days including customs clearance. For six-figure pieces we can arrange armed handover or delivery to your bank's safe-deposit facility (particularly common in Zürich, Geneva, Munich and Monaco).
6. Crypto vs SEPA — which to use
USDT (TRC-20 or ERC-20) is the workhorse for EU settlements under 80,000 EUR. BTC is standard for six-figure Pateks, AP Jumbos, Grand Complications and any Richard Mille. SEPA bank wire in EUR is available across all 36 SEPA countries — same-day settlement, ideal for buyers who want a fully non-crypto path or want to split (e.g. 50% BTC / 50% SEPA). Faster Payments for UK GBP, SIC for Swiss CHF.
7. Tax notes by country (short version)
Germany: BTC/ETH held over 12 months is tax-free on disposal (private-sale exemption, §23 EStG). France: 30% flat tax (PFU) on crypto capital gains; occasional-seller regime possible. Italy: 26% capital-gains tax on crypto gains over 2,000 EUR/year (2026). Switzerland: private wealth-tax on crypto holdings; capital gains generally tax-free for private investors. UK: CGT applies on disposal (annual allowance and rates change; check HMRC). Always confirm with a local adviser.
